17 - To WoW or not to Wow
For about a year, maybe more, I have been struggling with deciding whether or not to get involved with World of Warcraft. I have friends who play it, work colleagues who play and it does seem like a very attractive game. Once of the main reasons why I have not made the purchase is the fear that my life might get sucked away like the horror stories I have heard about Everquest, another game I avoided with fear. The number of times I have been in Best Buy with the box in my hand and on my way to the cashier is uncountable. I have resisted successfully.
Last week at SXSW I attended a panel which was entitled “Joi Ito Presentation: Why I Love WoW”. This was more of a look at the game from a business management training and educational side. Basically how the game can teach you business applications and management without you even realizing that you are learning such horrible things. Okay maybe horrible is a bit strong. It was very informative and sparked my curiousity about the game even more.
Today Wired release an article entitled “You Play Warcraft? You’re Hired!”. So yet another article singing praise to the game that must be played.
And then there’s Leeroy Jenkins. With evidence of the fun that can be had there, how can I not get it.
There are way too many things I have on my plate right now. Web design, music to write for 4 different projects, sleep, hot tub, social time. But the ability to resist this game grows! WHYYYY! Please comment and convince me either to get this game or not to get this game….. okay GO!

Don’t do it dude. I have a handful of friends that I don’t see much anymore because of this game. It’s crack!
