Ok the title goes against Asimov’s 3 primary laws of robotics and hopefully that won’t really happen, but I sure hope the engineers developing this new robots are taking those 3 laws and making them a reality.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Meet “Promet“, the humanoid robot HRP-2. They have a few video clips on their site of Promet in action. I love the design. Just the way he looks and the colors they use remind me of something from Evengelion or Robotech. And it’s run on Linux.I just think it’s incredibly neat that in my lifetime I am seeing the beginning of an age that I have been reading about since I first discovered Asimov’s books that go back to being written over half a century ago.
