Big Bang Maker: On/Off

New Zealand scientists are building a Stargate! Well kinda. It’s a big particle accellerataor that will created “small big bangs” and possibly black holes. The scientists say that this could possibly open a door to other dimensions. Pretty cool I think. Oh ya there is a 10 to the negative 40 percent that it could destroy the earth. But oh well, scientist must take risks. Maybe if there’s an accident, one of the scientist may develope some supernatural powers like Dr.Doom and then try to intentionally destroy the Earth….or maybe just take it over. I finally saw Fantastic Four last night, so I guess that’s where this is all coming from. Which it was better than I thought it might be. The Human Torch saved that movie for me I think. He was funny. Ok back to visiting alien planets by stepping through a Stargate portal. Cool huh. So they’re going to turn it on and leave it on for at least a decade and maybe even twenty years, but they won’t have any results until after the first year. Why did Chernobyl just pop into my head? Anyways, I can’t wait until they find out new things…..or until they blow up the Earth.

Nerd Factoid

Harold and Maude was a great movie. I can watch that movie over and over. It’s probably one of my favorites. Dark, funny, and beautifully shot. The Cat Stevens soundtrack fits perfectly. Bud Cort plays Harold. He’s been in a lot of other movies and shows and voices on animated series, but here’s one I was happy and surprised to see him in….

Bud Cort was also the voice of Edgar, the psycho computer, in the 1984 movie Electric Dreams. This might have been one of the first movies that got me interested in computers, AI, and robot psychology. If only I could have made my Commodore 64 talk to me. Now you must go rent this movie and watch it if you have not seen it. And there must be something wrong with you if you have never seen Harold and Maude, one of the best true love stories of our time.

Finally Snakes on a Plane

Last night I finally saw Snakes on a Plane. I missed some of the beginning but that didn’t matter much because I will be seeing this movie several times in the next few weeks. So armed with bottomless nachos and free refill sodas, I found my seats on Pacific Air Flight 121. First I will say that the movie was even better than I have been speculating it would be. The script was absolutely horrible which made it even better. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything at all. But I will say that I involuntarily dumped my nachos in my lap at one point. This movie is a must see for everyone. Don’t bring your kids. It’s rated R for a reason. This is a very fun movie. Bring all your friends and go see it. But show up ready to scream, yell, shout, squeel, moan, laugh and yes, cry.
Call me up. I’ll join you to see it again, but I can’t promise that you won’t end up with my food in your lap.

Superman Returns

It was a great 4th of July. Fun times the night of the 3rd. It was good to see all my friends at the various places I visited. 4th was filled with BBQ and freedom.

I also saw Superman Returns. Now I am a bit biased because I love Superman, but I have to say I greatly enjoyed that movie. Brandon Routh did a great job capturing the same essence that Christopher Reeve had. Lois Lane, eh, whatever. But the story was good in a comic book sort of way. It brought back many memories of me as a child going to see the first Superman movie with my mom at the Lakewood Theater in Dallas one rainy Saturday afternoon. When it was over and we went outside it was raining and my mom asked me, “You want to see it again?”. “We can do that?!” I replied. She called my step dad and told him we would be late and we went right back in the theater and watched it again. Ah the salad days.

Did anyone catch the new Snakes on a Plane trailer on the ol tele this weekend?

I hope that this confirms that there will be no change to the title as rumored. So I have, for now, held off any plans on striking and boycotting the changing of the name of Snakes on a Plane.

We could rally together to get Alamo to do a special SOAP screening and serve up a nice snake dinner on airline tray table while we’re watching it. Who’s in?
